I stumbled across this music video on YouTube and am still thinking about it. The date of the song–and I guess video–is 1979, but I missed it somehow in my journeys in and around Westminster, Baltimore and eventually Milwaukee. Faithful’s voice, and the images and music come together in one powerful statement even more relevant in the 21st century.

We are a growing and dynamic small publisher looking for a Publishing Assistant/PA to support a busy and friendly publisher (us!) in their daily activities.
Â
Responsible for handling incoming emails, diary management, correspondence writing, proofreading and other tasks on an ongoing basis.
Â
This is not a regular gig — and, as such, the hours are flexible.
Â
Additional duties include advert copy management as well as ad hoc projects as specified by the publishers.
Â
A passion for the small press  would be a bonus as you will be heavily involved in the daily activities that make this successful small press tick!
Â
Other qualifications include:
Â
- Previous experience in editorial work and an understanding of the publication process. A working knowledge of Quark software would be an asset.
- Knowledge of wordprocessing software and ability to communicate with authors and printers on these applications.
- Strong time management and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work in a team environment and to meet predetermined deadlines.
We operate in virtual space—so a confident, friendly person would suit this environment well. Of course, you’ll need a computer with a broadband connection!
Â
You must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, excellent keyboard skills including the use of microsoft packages. You should be highly organized and therefore always one step ahead of what’s going on.
Â
An eagerness to learn new things and develop in the role and grow with the press!
Â
This is not a paid position—we are all volunteers here. But it’s part-time, and you’ll get a behind the scenes peek at running an online publication, a fabulous line on your resume, and access to lots of great writers and editors.
Â
This is not a paid position; but offers the potential for some very valuable experience in a small press publishing house.
Â
This is an opportunity for you to expand your academic and professional portfolio (in regards to obtaining experience and credentials). And, although this ongoing project will be quite fun, there is a commitment of time and energy!
